Open House at Hampton Court Palace

Open House London, the capital’s greatest architectural showcase, will take place on 18 & 19 September 2010.
The initiative is a simple but powerful concept: hundreds of great buildings of all types and periods open up their doors to all, completely for FREE. Hampton Court Palace is taking part in Open House again this year with two great offers:
1. Beyond the Palace - Talk and tour, Clore Learning Centre
In an exhibition and wonderfully illustrated talk, the growth and development of Hampton Court Palace will be shown using architectural designs, historical photographs and surveys from Historic Royal Palaces’ Architectural Drawings Archive.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to join a tour of the surrounding landscape led by Historic Royal Palaces’ dedicated volunteers. Local buildings, including the Royal Mews and Sir Christopher Wren’s former residence, will be used to illustrate the impact of the palace on its local environment.
Tours and talks run regularly from 10.30 - 3.00pm and are booked on the day, on a first come, first served basis at the Clore Learning Centre.
2. Tennis Court Lane Tours
For Open House 2010, Hampton Court Palace is continuing its popular Tennis Court Lane tours. Led by Historic Royal Palaces’ volunteers, these are a fantastic opportunity to see a more functional side of the palace and get behind the scenes.
The 45-minute tours run at regular 20-minute intervals from 10.30 to 4pm on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September 2010. Tours are booked on the day, on a first come, first served basis at the front of the palace.
Both events are FREE and do not include entry to Hampton Court Palace. For more information, please visit http://www.hrp.org.uk/adultlearning
